What is the difference between GaugeMate Gold and GaugeMate Silver adapters ?
When using Gold adapters, the spent hull is removed as you normally would - the adapter stays in place. With Silver, the adapter and the spent hull are removed together from the chamber. The user then manually removes the hull from the adapter and places the adapter back in the chamber.
How do you test GaugeMate adapters ?
We've got independent velocity test data from Sherman Bell. We also have our own patterning data.
The variety of break action shotguns made since the late -19th Century is daunting. Chamber dimensions weren’t standardized in England and Europe until 1902. Many guns were made with chambers shorter than 2 ¾”.
Our approach has focused on trying the adapters in as many guns (old & new) as possible. We have had substantial assistance from members of the California Side by Side Society. From them we have borrowed Clabroughs, Horsleys, Darnes, Purdeys, Rigbys as well as many other makes.
Are GaugeMate adapters available from retailers ?

Are flare to live round adapters legal to own and use?
Flare pistols are not mean to be used as a weapon. However, any modification of a flare gun to shoot live rounds, including combining it with a flare gun insert constitutes a title 1 Firearm. This means it must be treated as such in terms of safety, legality, possession and ownership. Regardless of firearm classification, always treat your flare gun insert as a loaded firearm and follow basic safety protocol. Never store your insert loaded; only load when you are ready to fire. Do not dry fire, as it may deform the chamber of the barrel.
GaugeMate advises you to know your local laws and limitations before you plan on purchasing these or any other items.
